Out in the Fens, Hereward the Wake is leading a rebellion against the oppressive Normans who have recently conquered England, and, near Huntingdon, a rebellious Saxon girl is struggling against her parents' wish that she marries a Norman. Land has been seized illegally and her father is trying to preserve his inheritance by this unwanted marriage but Hunneva's fight will take her into great danger and as she leaves the safety of her home she could bring disaster onto her family.
