The opportunity of owning and operating your own VA (Virtual Assistant) business has never been quite as attainable as it is today. Speaking from my own experience, it's an amazing business with very low overheads and set up costs, and it is also a business which can open the door to many career opportunities, giving savvy VAs the ability to provide a service based on their own unique skills and experience to primarily] SMEs and entrepreneurs who value the many benefits of teaming with a professional VA. The VA industry is a growing one, and here in Australia, it's relatively new and fresh, and packed full of possibility. As a business model, it's a perfect solution for people who, in particular, need to generate an income whilst managing the needs and demands of families (old and young), or individuals who just want to stop 'working for the man' and become their own boss. However, setting up successfully as a VA is only the first step. The challenge is to grow your business in the direction you want it to move in, i.e. towards your goals. Sometimes this occurs organically - easily and without too much effort. Mostly, however, what the majority of practising VAs find is that all too easily they get caught up in the everyday "busy-ness" that ensues in an active small business. We find ourselves making classic mistakes, like taking on roles or working with clients who don't really fit with our overall business ideals and vision, but the ability to recognise this gets lost in the need to grow and become profitable quickly, and is further exacerbated by our lack of planning. The result can be that we lose our 'why' - the very inspiration that led us into setting up our own business as a VA in the first place As a VA and VA Trainer, losing direction is one of the most common struggles I see other VAs face, and it's the very reason behind this book. I've written this book specifically for existing and new VA business owners who feel like they are stuck in a rut; needing to re-define their game plan and re-invent their VA experience.
