Renaissance philosopher and statesman Thomas More played a central role in defending the Catholic faith during the Protestant Reformation. When he opposed Henry VIII's move to distance himself from the Church and divorce his wife Catherine of Aragon, the king had More imprisoned in the Tower of London.
