In many African countries, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, SMEs play a key role in economic growth and in the fight against unemployment and poverty. Unfortunately, however, few SMEs have access to bank credit. This prompted us to undertake a study of the determinants of SME access to bank credit in the city of Goma, located in the province of Nord-Kivu in the DRC, with a view to identifying the factors that positively influence commercial banks to grant credit to the few SMEs that do.
