At a friend's lake cabin, her mom invites a troubled young woman to join them. Julia is in awe of her beauty but soon finds herself overlooked as her mom tries to help the girl escape her past. Grandpa Floyd shares his memories along Route 66, reminding Fan of his years as a homeless wanderer. In California, they're surrounded by luxury at the mansion where Cousin Marion hosts them. Unnoticed, Julia gets caught up in a secret romance. And the family has more adventure than they bargained for at the new theme park, Disneyland.

Throughout the story, Julia is confronted with adult issues as she grows into womanhood - which role model will she follow - her flirtatious friend, Hedi, their family friend, Matilda, or the beautiful woman her mom befriended?
