The variety of translations of the Aramaic phrase "one like the son of man" already shows that the identity debate concerning this apocalyptic figure in Daniel 7 is controversial: Is he the Messiah, the human king Adam, a collective symbol for the people of Israel, or even a heavenly being, the archangel Michael? Does the dream vision in Daniel 7 allow an interpretation of the "one like the son of man" as YHWH or does it characterize the figure as an unspecified role? This work systematizes the currently represented types of interpretation and proposes an own solution.
