Beskrivelse

Deporting 'Black Britons' exposes the relationship between racism, borders and citizenship by telling the painful stories of four men who have been exiled to Jamaica. All four men, having moved as children, spent roughly half of their lives in the UK, before being deported following interaction with the criminal justice system. For each of the men, deportation was lived as exile from home - from parents, partners, children and friends - and the book provides portraits of their lives in the UK and in Jamaica. In particular, it examines processes of criminalisation, illegalisation and racialisation as they interact to construct deportable subjects in contemporary Britain. The book offers new ways of thinking about race and citizenship at different scales (local, national, global). Deporting 'Black Britons' is an ethnography of deportation that helps us better understand the anti-immigrant times we are living through.
