»Insurance Contract Law - a Mirror of pre-legislative Practice? Terrestrial Insurance Law and its Sources from the Prussian Allgemeines Landrecht (1794) to the Versicherungsvertragsgesetz (1908)«: Does German insurance contract law really represent a mere copy of pre-legislative General Conditions of Insurance? This research thesis undertakes a detailed analysis of historical insurance law doctrine that traces its development from the Prussian Landrecht (1794) to the modern Versicherungsvertragsgesetz (1908). Numerous historical sources show that, besides insurance practice, a wide range of other actors with completely different intentions has shaped the law that is still in force today.
