The study deals with the interdenominational exchange of oratorios in the German-speaking countries during the 18th century. It explores the hitherto hardly discussed question of the confessional character of the sacred music genre. Interdenominationally adapted oratorios show their changing functions in interdenominational contexts and their strong influence by contemporary developments.
