Dane Jeross the Shadows Man Dane Jeross is a middle-aged, durable Dublin private detective, and he thrives on taking risks. Even his very name spells danger! Greatly influenced by an early fascination with the movies, he models his image on old Hollywood film noir private eyes like Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe, as portrayed by the likes of Humphrey Bogart, and occasionally converses in a questionable Dublin-meets-Chicago drawl.
He even wears a fedora and the odd trench coat, and packs a snub-nosed .38 pistol. However, he is greatly dependent on his efficient assistant, Kate Connors, one of his first clients.
Now, Dane's thrilled to be hired by an intriguing young woman, Marilyn Hayworth. As if her name isn't redolent enough, she's a veritable blend of forties' film noir femme fatales, Veronica Lake and Lizabeth Scott. She wants Dane to check out her odd fiancé, Stewart Coffee, whom she suspects of infidelity.
Ultimately, Coffee reveals more layers than a spaghetti casserole, thus providing an extraordinary climax.
