Ivan, seeking a freedom denied him in Russia finds sanctuary in the arms of Elsie, having left Anna and his unborn child in Cornwall. When he once more flees, robbing Elsie in the process, he is found by James - a mining consultant who wants Botallack mine. But they aren't the only buyers and the quiet shadow of the British Government begins to grow darker and more powerful.
