Beskrivelse
This book about how to model a statuette is offered to help students and serious amateurs in their endeavors. Avard Fairbanks' statuettes - "Pele, the Hawaiian Volcano Goddess" and "Smoke Signal" - were photographed as a systematic process, and explanations are included, stressing the elements of design and anatomy. Also included is "The Hawaiian Fisherman" statuette. Since Dr. Avard T. Fairbanks was a university professor of fine art, the outline of the book is a simulated demonstration lecture. Nude female figures and nearly nude male figures are chosen, not only to exemplify the natural beauty of the human physique, but also to emphasize the importance of anatomical modeling, since it is fundamental to the creation of fine sculpture. The anatomical illustrations were selected from lecture notes distributed to students. Illustrations, tables, and discussions of human proportions were a part of his doctoral thesis, a dissertation titled "Anatomic Design."
