On a bench in the summer-bustling Tivoli Gardens, retired professor Bjarne Arnesen takes a bullet to the head. His stepson, award-winning journalist Kurt Østergård, receives a video message from him 28 months later. Arnesen pleads with Kurt to stop what he calls "them" and urges him to pick up where he left off. This leads Kurt to a discovery that will have significant consequences, not only for Kurt but also for Denmark and the royal family.
Meanwhile, radiation expert and former UN weapons inspector Søren Storm is asked to assist the police in solving a radiation-related murder committed at Rigshospitalet (the National Hospital). The gruesome and bizarre murder puts Storm on the trail of a radioactive bomb that could detonate at any moment in Copenhagen. The Queen's grand jubilee celebration, attended by prominent guests from home and abroad, is just around the corner.
