Constitutional Law
Constitutional law is the body of laws, doctrines, and practices that control how political communities operate. The state has always been the most important political community in modern times. Both nationalism and the idea that the state must safeguard individual fundamental rights are reflected in contemporary constitutional law. Constitutions and the body of constitutional law have grown with the number of states, though sometimes this law comes from outside the state. Since the middle of the 20th century, supranational institutions have become more concerned with safeguarding individual rights.
