This book is based on the papers presented at a seminar organised by the Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow. The 35 papers included in the book have been classified into seven main subthemes: (i) Rural-Urban Fringe-Conceptual Issues and Challenges; (ii) Delimitation of the Rural-Urban Fringe; (iii) Urban Sprawl and Changing Scenario of Rural-Urban Fringe; (iv) Dynamics of Land Use in Rural-Urban Fringe; (v) Land Acquisition and Livelihood Issues; (vi) Civic Amenities and Quality of Life; and (vii) Planning for Rural-Urban Fringe. The present book examines in detail the different issues relating to the problems of rural-urban fringe and its management. It also covers the rural-urban fringe in a comprehensive and multidimensional perspective. It will be of great interest for teachers, students research scholars as well as policy makers interested in issues of urban development planning.
