Beskrivelse
The largest goalkeeper ever to take the field at the highest level of football, William Henry Foulke was a truly larger-than-life character. An immense 24-stone goalkeeper in the days when football was rather more physical was always going to please the crowds. Foulke did so between 1895 and 1915 at Bradford and Sheffield United - at a time when The Blades were one of the finest sides in the country. His life story is crammed with anecdotes and this is well brought out in this book - the first on the subject - about a colourful hero who was once described by C.B. Fry as having 'a touch of genius, and... in spite of a suspicion of eagerness makes a last defence that is almost impregnable'.
