Beskrivelse
A look at the chicken farming industry through the eyes of the chicken. Pickin is a free-range chicken with a serious problem. When a freak accident blows her away from her happy farm, she finds herself in the alarming and wicked land of the factory chicken farm industry. Trying to find a way home, Pickin must travel through the horrors of the poultry sheds. She encounters many of her kind along the journey - the abused chicks, a refuge rooster, the jailed battery hens, and some busty broiler chickens. But will Pickin find a way back home before she faces the terrifying processing plant? All the whimsy of a children's book and all the reality of how chickens are treated before they reach our dinner tables.
Excerpt: ".....Then came the day we watched Food Inc., and our stomachs turned. We didn't eat meat for two weeks after seeing it. This is when we began buying meat from reliable farmers. It was then that I found a 2007 special he filmed called Fowl Dinners - a gala dinner party that demonstrated the reality of how chickens live and die before reaching the grocery store. Suddenly, I remembered a story my parents had invented for me when I was little. It was about a chicken named Pickin who got into a spot of trouble. And my mind started turning. I call it my "rumination process." I would write a story for adults and tell it in the style of a children's book. And this is how Clucked began." - Gregory Lee White
