In Close Your Eyes So You Can See Me, Reverend John B. Reid, who served as a Chorbishop in the Western Rite Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch for many years before returning to parish life and his spiritual retreat work, points Christians toward a new spiritual growth through self-discovery. Spiritual growth, he says, comes from bringing more awareness into our daily lives by sweeping out old shame-based belief systems. For example, he does not believe that God created men and women so that they could suffer. He advises Christians to love all people- even non-believers-and believes that Christians cannot know true love until they can love those who smite them. Father Reid invites readers to make changes that will bring more love, joy, and peace into their lives by facing their shadow-self in order to discover their True-self. Fr. Reid was educated at California Christian University and International Reform University. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1993. In 1996, Fr. Reid was ordained a Priest by the Western Rite Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch. After many years of Parish life, Fr. Reid now serves as a Retreat Director, Spiritual Director and Counselor; working with people recovering from addiction, and Adult Children of Alcoholics/Addict. He also is a Lecturer, speaking to groups and religious organizations.
