INTRODUCTION Why a book on Christian growth and maturity? Why not a book on evangelism? It is my belief that while the Church has done a great work in outreach, little has been done to grow and mature those who have received the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. The Church may boast of thousands and millions coming to Christ in evangelism meetings but we cannot boast of the same numbers coming into their inheritance in Christ through maturity. More effort needs to be put on those who receive Christ as their Lord so that they can grow and mature in Christ and become fruitful in his kingdom. A look at natural things sometimes enables us to learn spiritual truths. In the natural, children are born all over the world every single day. They are all born small and do not weigh much. They begin sucking the mother's milk and begin to increase in size and weight. Gradually these infants are weaned off and begin to take solid food. They continue to feed and grow to the delight of their parents. As a parent, I know the joy of observing the growth of my children from one stage to another as they increase physically and also mentally. However, in the natural not all children grow as they are supposed to. Some are born with some complications and are not able to increase physically and grow mentally. Their growth is stunted. I believe you have seen adolescents who look like the size of five years olds. Something has terribly gone wrong in their lives and hindered their growth. Similarly, in the family of God, many infants or new believers are being born into the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ every single day all over the world. ...And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved (Acts 2:47). They too like in the natural realm must be fed on the milk of God's Word until they grow up and begin taking the solid food of God's Word.
