ScienceWiz(R) Chess, Twice A Pawn A Time, Library Edition Book II, is a recipient of the prestigious Modern Library Award. It provides a highly visual and engaging presentation of the game of chess. The book advances a youngsters playing skills. The author, Patzi Stewart, recommends that the book be approached incrementally, about 20 minutes at a time, followed by the actual playing of a game. The book starts with a review of chess moves, the relative value of each piece and trading strategies. It then explores interesting things about pawns, queening, knights, bishops, rooks and endgame strategies. The special topics covered for the king include stalemate, checkmate, back rank mate and boxing the king. The book continues with opening moves and fool's mate, castling and en passant. The author, Patzi Stewart, taught youngsters from preschool through high school, in public schools, private schools and recreation centers throughout the San Francisco East Bay for over 15 years.
