Beskrivelse
The correspondence of the Genevan writer Jean-Charles Leonard Simon de Sismondi reflects the moods, passions, rivalries and hopes of a vital milieu that represented public opinion in the first half of the nineteenth century. It is much more European and incisive concerning the political and cultural dynamics of the time than the limited means of communication would lead to believe. The first half of this collection addresses the writer's principal feminine correspondents, investigating his own development as well as the nineteenth-century feminine presence and condition. The second half concentrates on exchanges between Sismondi and Julia and Harriet Garnett between 1826 and 1840, totaling 83 letters in all. Italian text.
