The labyrinth in Chartres Cathedral is arguably the most elegant and influential labyrinth ever made. In 1201 the great master mason of Chartres Cathedral took a known manuscript design and adapted it for his own use, adding sacred proportions and symbolic elements in the form of center petals and perimeter lunations. Carved meticulously out of limestone and marble, the labyrinth has influenced a whole new generation of builders more than eight hundred years later in the twenty-first century.
