In 1946 Chicago, the Lido Club, a once-notorious speakeasy turned jazz hotspot, finds itself at the center of a dark mystery. The renowned showgirl, "The Canary," holds the club's elite secrets in a small canary-shaped locket. Her power to influence and manipulate the city's wealthy patrons through their darkest secrets makes her a target.
During her captivating performance one night, a masked figure attempts to assassinate The Canary, but she narrowly escapes. The club's manager, Lawrence Thompson, discovers her locket on the stage, reinforcing the danger she faces.
Detective Paul Drake, intrigued by the attempted murder, arrives at the Lido Club to investigate. As he delves into the case, Detective Charlie Chan from Honolulu joins him to assist in unraveling the enigmatic organization that seeks to control The Canary.
The detectives uncover secret passages and hidden compartments within the club, discovering the involvement of wealthy patrons, Eleanor Worthington and Henry Vanderbilt, in the organization. As they gather evidence, they expose the organization's activities, leading to the unmasking of the masked figure as, Lawrence Thompson.
Thompson, desperate to protect the organization's secrets and his involvement, reveals his motive for attempting to kill The Canary. Detective Drake and Detective Chan apprehend him and the organization's members, ensuring justice is served.
With the mystery solved, Detective Chan prepares to return to Honolulu while Detective Drake contemplates the remaining secrets in the city. The story concludes as the Lido Club stands quietly, leaving behind a legacy of intrigue and justice served.
