All over the Canvey there is evidence of its history, from the pillboxes built during the Second World War to fairground attractions that show its prominence as a Victorian resort. Following on from the first two collections of archive images, this new volume revisits the Canvey Island of yesteryear with the use of 200 fascinating photographs, postcards and other ephemera. As well as demonstrating the diversity of islanders throughout history, this edition pays particular attention to the devastating North Sea floods of 1953. Some residents may remember the destruction, and others will be shocked when they the eastern Newlands part of the island so affected by the deluge.
