Beskrivelse
Candide is the most famous work of Voltaire. It is an adventure novel with satirical sideswipes at the church, politics and philosophy. Candide grows up in the castle of a baron. He is the illegitimate son of the baron's sister and develops a particular soft spot for Kunigunde, his beautiful daughter. The court tutor, Pangloss, teaches him and the naive pupil eagerly soaks up every word. Pangloss's guiding principle is "No cause without effect." Stones, for example, are meant for building castles, so the baron has a beautiful castle. This world, in which everything is perfectly arranged, is therefore also the best of all worlds.
