Like her, they are different, linked since birth with another dimension. This grants them fantastical powers, but also embroils them in a war against a hidden enemy - immortal beings who have been preying on humanity for thousands of years.
LONG SYNOPSIS Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Eighteen-year old rebel Grace is coming to the end of her latest spell on the psyche ward when she suffers a sudden psychological episode - and crosses over into another dimension. Medical intervention from Dr. Abraham brings her back - but she is followed. An evil entity, one of an immortal race, possesses Dr Abraham and, in her body, follows Grace home to the shack she shares with her troubled mother, Hannah.
That night, Grace is visited by Gabriel, an enigmatic man in his early 20s. Dr Abraham attacks, the Entity taking over the body of Grace's mother, too. Rescued by Gabriel, Grace has no option but to join him and the rest of his bizarrely talented gang - The Skindred.
Ayeisha is bullet-proof and packs a mean punch; Ying-Li has an affinity with nature, particular plant-life - if needs be, she can bring whole forests to life; and J.D... well, wait til you see the tentacles burst out of his body.
Grace discovers her powers are like Gabriel's - psychic, telekinetic and the ability to sense others of their kind wherever they may be found. It seems obvious to Gabriel that Grace belongs with them. But Grace is resistant - she's only sticking with them so she can rescue her mother.
And then Gabriel reveals the enormity of the enemy's crimes. And he is assembling an army of Skindred in preparation for the war to come.
Grace might not want it, but she and those like her are humanity's only hope.
