Beskrivelse
This discussion of Byzantine seals in eastern Europe is based on an illustrated catalogue of examples, both chance finds and grave goods, most of which are now held in museums in Russia, the Ukraine and Poland. Following a discussion of their function, Bulgakova examines their political context between the 9th and 14th centuries, focusing on the Byzantine administration of Russia. The catalogue presents both Byzantine seals and contemporary native Russian seals. German text.
