Beskrivelse
Wall-paintings dating from the 11th to 15th centuries have survived in only around twenty churches on Crete. This volume contains a thorough investigation of the style and iconography of the paintings in each church. Spatharakis demonstrates how the paintings that were produced when the island was under Venetian occupation, are unique amongst Byzantine art. He also discusses the influence of Western Christendom on the iconography.
