Brothers Jake and Pigeon drown an immigrant fisherman when they scuttle a shrimp boat in the shallow, muddy waters of Biloxi Bay. In the shifting tide, secrets from Vietnam wash away until Anh Thuong, the dead man's daughter, stumbles upon a war-time journal and resurrects the truth. Hoping to find peace and resolution for her family, she confronts the brothers' father, Vietnam veteran Rex Thompson.

For two decades, Rex tried to forget a crime he had committed in the war and the man who had witnessed it. Now, his sons, with a felony of their own, force him to reconcile with his past.
