It's the year 1949. The second Worl War is over. Homicide Detective Johnny Vero has been promoted to Lieutenant as a result of capturing serial killer, Jean-Paul Vincent the previous year (from first in this series, Ten Cents a Dance). Now in this crime thriller, a one time freight ship captain, Griff, now smuggles opium and Chinese women into New York's Chinatown.
