When Richard Lewin, a close friend, and award-winning reporter for the Guardian newspaper's investigative journal InSight, is brutally murdered, Oxford academic Benjamin Hennigan is forced to enlist the help of friend and former GCHQ analyst to help recover a collection of documents encrypted in an email attachment his murdered friend sent to him hours before his death - documents detailing an incomplete InSight investigation. In the days following the death of his close friend, Hennigan is pursued by armed assailants and corrupt police as he slowly pieces together details of InSight's incomplete investigation, revealing links between a powerful criminal group with close connections to the Kremlin and the Russian FSB, members of the UK Cabinet, the UK Civil Service, and the London Metropolitan Police, and uncovers a plot to assassinate the UK Prime Minister, and the German Chancellor. Confronted with an ever-escalating series of murders in London, Cambridge, and Bath, Hennigan is forced to navigate world he has little knowledge of, and in doing so, sacrifice more than he could have ever imagined, as he races to identify those responsible for the murder of his close friend and save the lives of two people he has never met.
