When a global event causes humanity to lose their minds in an unexpected eruption of chaos, a young poet and painter leaves her former life behind. Thanks to the J.C.C., things in her Canadian corner of the world aren't so bad. Around the globe, however, billions of people have perished and many more are still suffering in the aftermath.

Two years following the uproar of 2024, Shira C. Loveland is still enjoying the peaceful, new life she thought she'd created for herself working for the J.C.C. until she's suddenly struck in the heart. Not only does she lose someone close to her but in the midst of the terrible grief she's now suffering, her dark and devastating past comes back to haunt her. Faced with an unforeseen rollercoaster of emotions, a developing, new relationship, and a collection of puzzle pieces that paint a picture of confusion, Shira is forced to confront her demons.
