Calista does not believe in the gods. And yet she has spent her life as a holy maiden preparing to be sacrificed to the king of gods, and she goes willingly to her death to escape her cruel reality. And yet as each day passes, their bond grows deeper. Rastus's actions do not match his words when he consoles her after her nightmares and promises to bring ruin to her temple for their transgressions against her.
