Crucial to the argument of whether Britain's remains in the EU or not, the authors provide a view from inside Europe with 25 years experience of its mechanisms and practices. Vast sums of money have been squandered - one insider described one Directorate as " a vast enterprise for looting community funds". Britain is a special case - it's language alone ( a true world language) is used by science, finance, airlines, the arts, literature, academia and industry across the globe. In the EU, supposed 'partners' will work - are working - to see Britain's position as a world player reduced to nothing more that a 'poor relation'. EU regulation is used tactically to shackle UK inventiveness and versatility; 80% of Britain's highly effective businesses are SME (Small/Medium-size Enterprises). These versatile and specialist groups are serious competition on world markets to Germany, France and other members. It matters little to Large-scale enterprises if UK remains in the EU; they can absorb the costs and employ sophisticated lobbying to smooth the way. SME's suffer and the EU's tactical use of regulatory power directs costly obstacles at the UK's highly competitive SME's. The combination of the English-language advantage and British inventiveness and business skills means the UK is a target for burdensome legislation: and our EU partners find Britain's dutiful compliance very convenient.
