The research work "Brazil was discovered in 1494" attracts attention by telling about one of the episodes of the history of "Great Geographical Discovery". According to the official version, the discovery of Brazil by the Portuguese on April 22, 1500 was a matter of luck. However, after many years of research, I was able to establish some facts contradicting this version. The discovery of Brazil was made by Duarte Pirairaira in 1494, according to a secret treaty between him and the Portuguese king. However, for certain reasons, the results of this expedition were kept secret. This work shows that although the Spaniards were the first to dock the shores of the South American continent, including Brazil, but the Portuguese, with the help of the Pope, managed to deceive the Spaniards, and in 1494, under the terms of the Treaty of Tordesillas, they captured Brazil. This material, generously enriched with historical facts as well as information that is not mentioned in scientific sources, should attract the attention of interested scientists. Most likely, this work will be discussed in Portugal, Spain and the Americas, and the history of the discovery of Brazil will be examined through a new lens.
