Mental illness spares none- the rich and the poor; the old and the young; all races, all nationalities. Stigma remains a major obstacle for people coping with mental disorders. Less than a third of people who have a mental disorder receive treatment. Some hesitate for fear that others will treat them differently. It could happen to you - or someone in your family. I want to share the story of my family's struggles in battling depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorder, alcoholism, Alzheimer's, and mental retardation. Our family has won some battles and we have lost some battles - but our family has always been courageous and loving and supportive of each other.
