Big mama knew how to bring the family together. It would happen all of a sudden. It's funny, she just knew when it was time. She wouldn't say a word, she would pull out an old drum, a Djembe drum to be exact and she would just start playing it. She had a very distinct rhythm a very special beat. it would carry near and far. When we heard it, we knew something was going on. It's one of those moments. Malik is out playing. He hears a sound that causes him to stop. He and the rest of the kids go and investigate the sounds. They discover a tense situation at home. It doesn't happen often but there is tension in the air. Family members are not getting a long and if nothing is done, it's bound to get worse. It beaks Big Mama's heart to see her family in such a situation. It doesn't happen often but when it does, it becomes the highest priority to bring the family together and remind them what makes the family a family. Big Mama understands the importance and the sense of urgency. She uses something as simple as a drum to interrupt the tension in the house and replace it with Love.
