Blackbird Flying

Sheila Nickerson's latest work, Blackbird Flying, defies categories. Grounded in the surprising details of family memoir, it expands to an exploration of mystery, "where solid is not solid and the shore is never certain," and lament unfurls to celebration.

 

Sheila has published widely in poetry and creative non-fiction. She spent twenty-seven years in Juneau, Alaska, where she served as Poet Laureate and taught creative writing in public schools, universities, and prisons. Now a resident of Bellingham, Washington, she recalls the migratory winters she has spent on the coast of South Carolina.
