Beskrivelse
This book is intended for Parents, Midwives, Maternity Nurses, General Practitioners, Neonatal Nurses as well as young Doctors looking after newborns and infants. It covers most of what the parents and health care providers need to know about birthmarks.
The birthmarks may be a source of unnecessary anxiety to parents following the birth of their healthy and beautiful baby. However, only a small percentage of birthmarks presents challenges and leads to consequences. The questions which come to parents' minds are many, but they are all circling around the current and future wellbeing of their child. One of the first questions is about the seriousness of the birthmark or its relation to a serious disease or disorder. This is usually followed by a series of inquiries as to why and how did it happen, and whether it will go away. Furthermore, the medical team faces the challenge of planning the management which is required in some cases.
Furthermore, children growing up with visible birthmarks face the difficult task of dealing with the society. All visible birthmarks invite attention from other children as well as adult. This applies to all visible birthmarks whether they are disfiguring or not. Staring looks, insensitive remarks and rude comments may initiate an added tension to the child and family. Birthmarks on the face may affect self-esteem and confidence of the child.
This book, hopefully, shall help parents and health care providers to identify, understand and manage babies and children with birthmarks.
