At the beginning the author presents the kingship and its legitimation and representation in the ancient Middle East of the 1st mill. BC on the basis of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Syria, Phoenica, the so-called North-Syrian realms, Edom, Moab and Ammon, Philistia and Israel. The following chapter deals with the aftermath of foreign dominations during Iron age IA-B (1250-1000 BC). At the end the images of the kings in the glyptic and minor art during Iron age II (1000-700 BC) are discussed.
