In 1957 New Orleans, James, a wealthy Creole man from the Seventh Ward, is confronted by Michael Brown, a small-time criminal known for his shady ways. James is searching for a timepiece that his father gave him and is unable to find it. As a young man, James failed in his race to qualify for the Olympics and was forced to work odd jobs. His mother, Lucille, became the region's largest madam and prevented his household from living in the streets. James and Michael were great acquaintances as children but were not liked from "darker" kids from the opposite side of the track. James remembers a race where he killed a man in a game and returns to the site where the game was played to search for the timepiece. Michael surpasses James by 20 pounds and views James as a pretty young man trying to establish an empire. James will do anything to keep the secret of his father's timepiece in a bottle for time. A shocking secret has been revealed to the community, and James is about to explode.
