Beneficial effects of probiotics, prebiotics, nutraceuticals and antioxidants on human health

An increasing number of patients today suffer from acute and chronic diseases. Current evidence supports the association of chronic diseases with modern lifestyle habits and immune system dysfunction. The morbidity and mortality of patients with chronic diseases are unacceptably high despite advances in medical and surgical treatments. Currently, there is a high interest in the bioecological and nutritional management of diseases. The use of prebiotics, probiotics, nutraceuticals, such as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory lipid emulsions of omega-3 fatty acids, bioactive fibers, lactic acid bacteria (LAB), etc., appears as a new tool for the treatment of diseases.
