Bel-Ami is a satire on those who let nothing stand in the way of their ambitions. It is based on Maupassant's observations of cynical businessmen and journalists in Paris. Bel-Ami is Guy de Maupassant's second novel. It was originally published in 1885, with the English version coming out in 1903. It has since been adapted for film, television, and theatre.
