Beskrivelse
Do you sometimes find it difficult to engage your loved one with dementia? To help them stay calm in the midst of an emotional reaction? To find activities you can share with them that encourage peaceful interaction?
This book can help.
Autumn (A Season of Memories) is the fourth in a series of four books highlighting childhood memories from each of the four seasons. Paging through this book is an activity that will capture your loved one's attention, engage their mind, and encourage them to relax.
People with dementia often have difficulty with short-term memory, but many of their long-term memories are intact. As your loved one is reminded of the activities of childhood, they may be inspired to talk about their own childhood or the joy they experienced raising their own children.
The childhood memories included in this book are simple ones that will be familiar to all seniors, such as picking out a pumpkin, trick or treating, making Thanksgiving dinner, and jumping into a pile of fallen leaves. Each "memory" is a short, uplifting story of a few sentences in large-print text illustrated by a full-page, full-color photo.
At Sunny Street Books, we design books specifically for seniors with dementia. Families, caregivers, and memory care staff can share our books with the people they care for. They also provide an excellent activity for seniors with Parkinson's disease or recovering from a stroke. Seniors with eyesight or strength challenges who find it difficult to hold a heavy book or read long paragraphs of text will also enjoy our books.
