The association between diabetes and myxedema, reported as early as 1895 by Exald and quoted by Ducros, has long appeared to be fortuitous... Since the recent refinement of the means of thyroid exploration, the epidemiology of hypothyroidism has been marked by an increasing frequency, especially in the female sex and in the elderly. Elsewhere, it is rarely described. Thus, according to Trowell, apart from one case, no primary form was observed before 1960 in Africa. We found a potential abnormality of glucose tolerance in one case. Diabetes It is non-insulin dependent and of plethoric type in the 3 cases. In 2 cases, diabetes was posterior and revealed by cardinal signs such as polyuria and polydipsia. On the other hand, in the last case, diabetes was present 5 years before hypothyroidism; it was detected systematically when a buttock abscess was discovered in a genetically predisposed subject who had not had any signs of hypothyroidism until then.
