On Augie's seventeenth birthday, a mysterious carnival rolls into town. Among the curious rides and tents are carnies, steampunkers, and a magician who can perform real magic. To Augie, it's the perfect distraction to help him forget that the girl he loves is now dating the boy he hates.

But not everything is as it seems. Beneath the laughter and cotton candy lurks something sinister that only Augie can sense. His friends mock his words of warning until the carnival is gone and has taken the girl Augie loves with it. Now Augie and his friends must scramble to find out where the carnival has gone. That's the easy part. The trick is freeing their friend without getting themselves killed in the process.
