The book "Aquaculture: New Horizons" is a documentation of Professor Hiralal Chaudhuri, the doyen aquaculture scientists; only a few of his publications were available to edit as most of his reprints, reports and unpublished works were donated to the library of the University of the Philippines. Some of his most important works on "Induced Breeding" of Carps have been documented Prof. Chaudhuri was given the epithet as ''The Father of Induced Breeding" which is well- known in the biological world. His monumental works on "Fish Seed Production" which is a remarkable piece of work also have been documented. It is said that owing to his research success supplemented by researches of fishery scientists Aquaculture has developed to become the fastest growing food producing sector in the world. He has expanded, diversified, intensified and technologically advanced this subject for which protein food production has increased. In fact it Revolution' in this country where the poor who suffered from malnutition now get easy protein food. The book also records (i) introduction of exotics (ii) summary of some foreign project reports (iii) stray lectures (iv) fresh water aquaculture (v) modern aquaculture (vi) fish culture management practices etc. The papers written in a clear lucid language are accessible to even non- biologists to understand his findings. This book if read alongwith the "Manuals on Aquaculture, Limnology and Ichthyology" which has been recently published by the same publisher will give the readers a very comprehensive picture of the complex subject of Aquaculture. It is hoped the readers will benefit from the treatise.
