The essence of healing is not the alleviation of suffering, but reconciliation. This statement has major implications for counseling, in order to establish reconciliation not only between spirit, soul and body of the broken individual, but also between family members, in the church, community, city and nation. Reconciliation in this context means integration, a harmony and tendency toward wholeness. Most of our human attention is directed towards the body, little to the soul and virtually none to the spirit. Likewise, no attention is being given to the restoration and healing of nations, to flow from there to societies, cultures, cities, communities and families.
