Beskrivelse
From the second half of the 2nd century BC, Hellenistic art produced numerous versions of the propped up or leaning female figure. In this study, these propped or leaning figures in Greek marble sculpture are brought together for the first time and analyzed in two major sections. Significant results were achieved based on the analysis of style and the observation of technical aspects. The volume also succeeds in illustrating the aesthetical-formal aspects of each motif examined. It was possible to achieve a classification of the figures based on detailed observation. An emphasis was put on defining a time frame for each object researched, which was confirmed by means of comparison with various other late Hellenistic works.
