Although not as well-known as Les Juives, this tragedy is nevertheless one of the undisputable successes of Renaissance humanist theater. In the play, Robert Garnier devises original pathetic, poetic, and dramatic effects. The present publication discusses the genesis, aesthetic, and sources of this work.
